Can you imagine a world where people of all ages treat each other with compassion and respect? A world where we all care about protecting the environment and where social responsibility is the norm? A world where conflicts are resolved peacefully? Where these values are shared by everyone, lived by teachers and taught at schools? This is the future our school DSA dreams of. And this is the future we are preparing our students to be active in shaping –not only by providing a learning environment where they learn to read, write, do maths and other subjects, but also where they learn valuable skills in relating to and empowering themselves, each other and the world around them.
DSA (Learning In a Free Environment) is an accredited, democratic school for primary and secondary education, based on Nonviolent Communication, located in the Amsterdam area.  Democratic schools like DSA are still private schools, are completely non-profit without any government funding. Tuition fees per student are actually too low to sustain a healthy business in the school’s start-up phase. We keep our school affordable for most families and we need extra financial support. In particular, as we enroll more students next academic year, we need to recruit extra  certified teachers in order to meet the requests students have for various subjects.

Support DSA

We want the DSA school to grow and, for example, offer chances to students who do not make it in mainstream education. Some of our students have special needs and we receive no funding to take care of these needs. We believe that all students have the right to discover what their real talents are, and what they can contribute to creating a future that meets all needs. Our focus is on supporting students to grow into active citizens of a peaceful world.  By donating to DSA you contribute to making this possible.
Democratic schools are not yet a given in the Netherlands and funds are needed to support the school in the start-up phase. DSA needs your help in raising €10,000 to cover start up costs like Nonviolent Communication staff training, building costs, the extension of our alarm system for fire safety and the zoning fees. See start-up costs. We hope that you all will be generous and give what you can to help us to meet and possibly exceed  that goal.
